Proverbs 2:10 (ESV)
for wisdom will come into your heart,
and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul;
In this section Solomon tells us if we pursue and seek God's wisdom He will give it to us. The verse states what that "giving" will look like - what the actually experience is all about. When God gives "wisdom" He tells us it will enter into our "heart." This is significant because later Solomon will tell us that "out of the heart flows the issues of life" (4:23). Solomon talks about the heart signficantly in Proverbs (over sixty times). When we pursue wisdom God places it in our hearts which assures it will come out in our daily lives (what's in the well comes up in the bucket). Notice how the writer of Hebrews pens it:
Hebrews 8:10 (ESV)
For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel
after those days, declares the Lord:
I will put my laws into their minds,
and write them on their hearts,
and I will be their God,
and they shall be my people.
But, that is just the truth of the first line of this proverb. In the second line he tells us it will be "pleasant" to our soul. When God gives us wisdom it is not bitter. It is not like taking a doctor's medicine that taste poor and carries numerous issues. We all know that today's medicine can save you from disease but also might sicken you with the side affects. God's wisdom is "pleasant" to the soul. It is something we want, desire and will enjoy. It is "easy to be entreated" according to James (compare earthly wisdom and God's wisdom in James 3:15 and 3:17). Enjoy God's wisdom. When we pursue it He puts it in the right place in the right way. And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him: bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; being strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy; giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light.
