Proverbs 4:9 (ESV)
She will place on your head a graceful garland;
she will bestow on you a beautiful crown.”
We spend a lot of money in our society on tying to look beautiful and honored. We dress up and go to important events to show our status or to elevate our status. When we win in athletic contest we give plagues or trophies or medals. Hollywood loves to reward itself with figurines and gold awards. Almost every industry on the planet has some sort of self reward system. Education is especially susceptible to self-proclaimed rewards for internal promotion. Yet, nothing can honor and reward us like when we are shined upon by Wisdom. Christ, the incarnation of Wisdom, clothes us with righteousness. Our old garments are soiled and tattered but are replaced by the crown of Wisdom and Grace He gives us. Our faith puts the armor of God around us. In the above Proverb, Solomon describes wisdom's new clothing for us as a garland of grace and a beautiful crown. We might think about a wreath around our necks. When a person is full of wisdom, by faith, they have an outward appearance others can notice. Peter warns women to be clothed not in jewelry and fine clothes, but in submission and in a gentle and quiet spirit. (1 Peter 3). That can only happen via faith in Christ as He clothes us with Wisdom by dwelling in us via the Spirit of God. When we put faith in Christ, He provides wisdom to clothe us ... others will notice a wreath and a crown.
