Proverbs 6:16

The book of Proverbs gives us insights into so many different areas of life. The book gives us instruction on how to live our lives for God. Here is a proverb that gives us insight about what God hates:

Proverbs 6:16

There are six things which the Lord hates,

Yes, seven which are an abomination to Him:

This proverb would be a surprise to all those who believe God is "only" a God of love.   In this proverb we see that the Lord "hates."  We have to understand that if there is "love" there must be "hate."  There must be one with the other.  Philosophically we can't have one without the other.   But, there are those who believe you can have love and not know hate.  You wouldn't know "hot" without knowing "cold."  You have to have both.  So, we see that God is the God of Love but He also hates.   If we are to be conformed to the Image of God, we will have to know love.  We will have to show love.  However, we will also have to know hate.  And, show hate.  We, too, must hate the things that God hates.   The next few verses show us what God hates.  We should know what God hates and do the same thing.  It is important to know the character of God and act the same way toward them.
