Proverbs 9:15 (ESV)
calling to those who pass by,
who are going straight on their way,
In chapter nine of Proverbs we have a contrast between Lady Wisdom (knowledge of God and faith in Christ) and the Women Folly (rejection of truth and a hard heart toward correction and God's way). In the first half of the chapter we see Wisdom making herself available to all who pass by; all who want to come in to her. In this proverb we see Folly's ways. She, too, sits on the corner (representing all common places we travel ... descriptive and non-descriptive at the same time). She "calls" out to those going by. Folly loves to seduce those who pass her by. You would think that means that they are traveling in places they ought not. But the second line of the proverb tells us that her target are men actually out minding their own business. They are not attempting to find Folly ... she finds them. She makes herself comfortable at every "corner" of our lives. Our lives are full of corners. Folly are around every corner. She is there, enticing those who are on their own road. There she distracts them from their business and invites them to stare, indulge, become comfortable with, and take part in her wicked abandonment of truth. Folly doesn't have to wait for us to make a mistake. She is on the corner right next to you and is calling out, right in the middle of a normal day. NO special plan is needed ... she just makes herself available and our sinful nature bends to her path. Only faith in the redeemer and protection from the Spirit (real wisdom) can protect us.
James 1:14-15 (ESV)
But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death.
