Proverbs 8:24

The book of Proverbs gives us insights into so many different areas of life. The book gives us instruction on how to live our lives for God. Here is a proverb that gives us insight about the priority of wisdom:

Proverbs 8:24 (ESV)

When there were no depths I was brought forth,

when there were no springs abounding with water.

In our society today, we are lead to believe that knowledge is acquired via education and knowledge is the path to wisdom.  We are taught that wisdom is the result of years of experience and is a benefit and blessing of time.   In the mind of most, wisdom is for the aged and something that is produced by knowledge and experience.   In the above proverb we have another marker of Lady Wisdom's character:  She was here before the seas, rivers, and lakes we have come to embrace and enjoy.   Wisdom was first!  Wisdom is at the top of all created things.  When the Son of God created all things, Wisdom was first.  It had to be.   The character of God was and is wisdom.   It would have to be the first created things as God moved to create anything.  Wisdom would need to be produced ... even before knowledge.   Wisdom leads to knowledge.   Wisdom is in the beginning.   When we have, via faith, Christ, we have wisdom.   He is from old and original.  When we have wisdom we have the Person of Christ within us.  When we pursue Christ we have wisdom.   We don't get wisdom by learning.  We acquire wisdom by faith in Christ.  As we are conformed to the image of Christ, we acquire more wisdom.  We are conformed more to the image of Christ, by faith.
