Proverbs 13:22 (ESV)
A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children,
but the sinner’s wealth is laid up for the righteous.
Solomon has much to say about wealth and money in the book of Proverbs. Money, possessions and the accumulation of them are given much print in Proverbs. In this particular proverb we are told about what happens to our wealth and possessions after we die. There are many who would say that this first is telling us to accumulate wealth and leave that wealth as an inheritance for our children and their children. However, that would seem to differ from almost every other passage on wealth. It doesn't seem to be talking about the aspect of storing wealth as good or bad in this proverb as much as it is telling us what will happen to it after we are dead. The sinner also stores up wealth. However, the sinner will lose his/her wealth after their death. The righteous person (the one who seeks Christ's righteousness in their stead) will see that their wealth (whatever they accumulate) will find safe passage into the storehouse of even their grandchildren. What Solomon is telling us here is that righteous people, as opposed to the sinner, can rest assured that whatever wealth they accumulate will be in safe hands. The wicked are not so assured. The sinner's wealth will also, eventually, end up in the hands of the righteous. When God says He owns everything, He means it. He will eventually give it ALL to His children.
