Proverbs 8:22

The book of Proverbs gives us insights into so many different areas of life. The book gives us instruction on how to live our lives for God. Here is a proverb that gives us insight about wisdom:

Proverbs 8:22 (ESV)

“The LORD possessed me at the beginning of his work,

the first of his acts of old.

In chapter 8 Proverbs, Solomon is telling us that wisdom is the supreme thing and therefore we ought to obtain her. He starts out the chapter by telling us how available she is, she is on every street, on every corner, on every path. She's available to us. In the above proverb he tells us how long she's been available. Wisdom was with God in the very beginning of creation. Note the following verses: Job 28:26- 28; Ps 104:24; Prov 3:19.  We need not look very far in creation to see God's wisdom. Man marvels as he looks at the human body. He stands amazed at the solar system. He studies bugs and he cannot believe what he beholds. Wisdom was at the beginning when God laid the foundations and the limits and the awe of creation.  Solomon wants us to know that God is wisdom. However, when he tells us that God possessed wisdom in the beginning he wants us to know that he didn't just use it to accomplish something but he is the very essence of wisdom. Christ is wisdom in us. Not only is wisdom available on every corner, and has been here since the beginning, it is powerful. Wisdom created what we see before us. So when we ask God for wisdom we have the power of God at our disposal.
