Proverbs 20:24 (ESV)
A man's steps are from the LORD;
how then can man understand his way?
This proverb may be insulting to those who don't have a good concept of the sovereignty of God. If you struggle with God having complete control (that means no room for other's to control anything ... if they could than God would not be sovereign) then you would have a hard time with a lot of the proverbs, much less this one. Solomon is telling us that man will have a hard time understanding his "way" in life because he is not in control of it ... much to his chagrin. Because we "think" we have so much control over our lives we forget that man’s steps are from the Lord. These words mean, they are by the "Lord's doing. We can be insulted by that or we can be uplifted and, by faith, be secure. It is safe to know that a loving, perfect, forgiving and just God has each step measured and planned. We can't understand them at all times, if ever, but the God who designed the foot can direct the steps. Let's rest in His control and direction.
