Proverbs 21:22 (ESV)
A wise man scales the city of the mighty
and brings down the stronghold in which they trust.
The point of the above proverb is that wisdom can overcome the powerful. And, since wisdom comes from the Fear of The Lord, we can put our trust in our relationship with Christ to give us wisdom to overcome the strength of the strong. The best example of this is, of course, young David against the mighty Goliath. Goliath trusted and gloated in his strength and power. David took pride in the skills and wisdom God gave him. We know how that story ends. In today's society strength and power are often praised and valued more than those who have wisdom and trust in God. But, their value should not draw us into that mindset. Solomon adds to the above truth in the book of Ecclesiastes:
Ecclesiastes 9:16 (NASBStr)
So I said, “ Wisdom is better than strength.”
God wants us to remember that the wisdom He provides will suffice us in any situation. Even though we think we are out numbered on those who think power trumps Godly wisdom, we really aren't. As David taught us, one plus God wins. See also Proverbs 16:32b and Proverbs 24:5- 6.
