Proverbs 6:22 (ESV)
When you walk, they will lead you;
when you lie down, they will watch over you;
and when you awake, they will talk with you.
We are to take the commandments to heart. By commandments the Proverbs mean all of God's teaching. When we do that they guide us and they “talk to us.” If you are hearing voices make sure it is the voice of God through His Word. This is the key to reading His Word. When we read it than we will hear it back. When we need God's Word it is there to talk to us only if we first take it to heart
Having a relationship with wisdom has so, so many benefits. The book of Proverbs is as much about the benefits of following God and obtaining His wisdom as it about those who reject God and His wisdom. This proverb is on the blessing side of the equation. When we obtain wisdom through faith in God we have great guidance, peace and assurance. Here we have three statements about the "times of our life" outlined for us. During these "times" we see that when we have wisdom, we have God giving us, through wisdom, all that we need in life. When we are "walking" through life we need guidance. God knows the path that we take. He can lead us. Wisdom will do that for us because God knows the wisdom we need. When we are sleeping we need protection and someone to watch over us. But how does wisdom watch over us? We need to realize that Wisdom is Christ. When we possess wisdom we possess Christ. So when we sleep, wisdom (Christ) watches over us. When we wake up we need conversation. Wisdom does that. Through the Spirit we have that conversation. So the Godhead is involved in our lives through Wisdom. God guides us, Christ protects us and the Spirit speaks to us. All of them are Wisdom in our lives. The benefit of pursuing God is that we have God in our lives via wisdom.
