Proverbs 28:18 (ESV)
Whoever walks in integrity will be delivered,
but he who is crooked in his ways will suddenly fall.
Proverbs 28:18 (NASBStr)
He who walks blamelessly will be delivered,
But he who is crooked will fall all at once.
Walking in integrity can be very boring. It can be very unpopular. It can be very different than the world. It can even be difficult to do in the face of societies many pressures. But the one thing walking in integrity is not, is unsafe. Solomon must have had numerous times to be crocked in his dealings with men and with God. Yet, he maintained integrity for the most part. As a result he saw that he was delivered. But those who walk in crocked or, what James calls, double-mindedness, will always fall. It might take time for us to see it, but those who lack integrity eventually fall into the trap they set for others (see Proverbs 1). Walking according to God's Word can make you unpopular with the world and even with Christian believers some days. But it will never leave you in an unsafe place. You will always have a safe passage and a safe harbor. The double-minded man can't have that assurance. Even when things are smooth they must be aware of their future destruction. God has promised it. For both of them.
