Proverbs 25:17 (ESV)
Let your foot be seldom in your neighbor’s house,
lest he have his fill of you and hate you.
It is tough to find balance in life. Especially when you find something good. We tend to over-indulge. We like deserts, drinks, food, sports, and fun too much. However, friendship is also something we could have out if balance. In the above proverb we see Solomon giving us a warning about over indulging with our friendships. He tells us that visiting with "our neighbor" TOO MUCH can have an adverse affect. He is not telling us to avoid our neighbor, but that we should avoid tiring our neighbor of our company. Even a good relationship needs to be nurtured by absence. Maybe the person who stated, "absence makes the heart grow fonder" had this proverb in mind. Over staying your welcome can cause serious injury to even you most cherished relationship. The phrase, least he have his fill, is the English, suffocate, "to overly feed or supply." So the next time you see your neighbor don't tell them you'll see them tomorrow ... Tell them you'll stop by next week. He might just have too much of you already.
