Proverbs 26:6

The book of Proverbs gives us a lot of instruction on a lot of different subjects. One subject that can keep us in God’s wisdom is Godly Follower-ship. Who we follow; where we follow; how we follow are all spoken about in Proverbs. Here is one of them about business with a fool:

Proverbs 26:6

He cuts off his own feet and drinks violence

Who sends a message by the hand of a fool.

Proverbs 26:6 (ESV)

6 Whoever sends a message by the hand of a fool

cuts off his own feet and drinks violence.

We live in a society where we are told how others act is none of our business. We are not supposed to care about their moral life or their habits. Yet, it is their habits and life that flow from their heart. If someone has poor habits and is morally corrupt than those habits flow from their inward belief and core values. What is in the well comes up in the bucket. Solomon is trying to impress upon us in this proverb that very fact. If someone rejects God at their core (the definition of a fool ... Psalm 53:1), than we are to be warned. Using them for something you depend upon is equally foolish. It is foolish to use a fool. If you send a fool to run an errand you can't depend upon him/her. Solomon is telling us that if their moral compass is off, so too will be their other GPS tendancies. They are not dependable if they don't have a core belief structure that includes a God-centered life. This is a far reaching and deeply troubling proverb when you are in business. Hiring fools for work is likely to make you busy watching for accountability issues. You will constantly have to watch them because you can't depend upont them. Could this be the reason we have so many "middle-managers?" We can't depend upon people who have no God-compass so we have to hire someone to watch them?
