Proverbs 20:15

The book of Proverbs gives us a lot of instruction on a lot of different subjects. One subject that can keep us in God’s wisdom is Godly Follower-ship. Who we follow; where we follow; how we follow are all spoken about in Proverbs. Here is one of them about the value of the Fear of the Lord regarding knowledge.

Proverbs 20:15 (NASBStr)

There is gold, and an abundance of jewels;

But the lips of knowledge are a more precious thing.

Proverbs 20:15 (ESV)

There is gold and abundance of costly stones,

but the lips of knowledge are a precious jewel.

Imagine if you were to stand on the corner, any corner in the country, and started to give away gold and jewels ... in abundance.  What would be the result? How would the community react?  There is no doubt many people would show up.   They might even call their friends to tell them of the cache of wealth being distributed so freely on the corner of Claim and Wealth.   Nothing would be more popular to the world.  Now imagine that instead of jewels and gold you are standing on the same corner, giving away knowledge on the corner of Wisdom and Prudence.  This is knowledge, as defined by the Fear of The Lord.   What would be your community's response?   We know that a college or other educational institution speak about providing knowledge.  But, their knowledge is not the fear of The Lord and it is not free.   But Biblical churches, on any corner, are not flocked to if they offer the Knowledge of the Supreme One.   People don't grasp that the knowledge of God is "precious."   The one who speaks knowledge is the one who has a precious commodity flowing from his/her lips.  The word “precious” first appears in the Hebrew in the books of Samuel.  It is used when they take the crown, filled with precious jewels, and place it on David's head.   The word means "rare" and "noble" together.   God's knowledge and the knowledge of God is both rare and noble.  It is worthy of any honor we can give it.   It is worth more than a guy standing on the corner giving away jewels and gold.  Those that use their speech and their language to move people toward the fear of the Lord have gold and jewels on their lips.   That is the best way to use your speech.  The “lips of knowledge” are precious.
