Proverbs 17:15 (ESV)
He who justifies the wicked and he who condemns the righteous
are both alike an abomination to the LORD.]
This proverb is telling us to be careful what we honor. When we "justify" the wicked we are siding with him. We are telling everyone that his actions are permissible. When we give honor to those who have low moral and spiritual bank accounts we tell all those around them that their behavior will be tolerated and possibly even rewarded. On the other hand when we "condemn" the righteous, we say to those around us, that right living is not rewarded and honored. Giving improper honor to either type of person is an abomination to The Lord. God hates those who do not honor what should be honored and who reward what should be condemned. We need to honor those who do what is right. We need to condemn those who do wrong. We get what we honor. We honor what we promote. We promote what we allow or applaud. That is what this proverb is teaching us.
