Proverbs 14:5

The book of Proverbs gives us a lot of instruction on a lot of different subjects. One subject that can keep us in God’s wisdom is Godly Follower-ship. Who we follow; where we follow; how we follow are all spoken about in Proverbs. Here is one of them about telling the truth:

Proverbs 14:5 (ESV)

A faithful witness does not lie,

but a false witness breathes out lies.

Nobody likes a liar, yet everybody lies.  Everybody likes it when you can believe what a person is saying, but no one ever really believes what you're saying. In this verse, Solomon tells us how refreshing it is to have someone speak the truth. It's trustworthy. Being able to trust someone completely because they always tell the truth, is not just rare, is completely missing in any society. The only person who actually tells the truth all the time is God. In Revelation 1:5 we read that Jesus Christ is trustworthy. He is a trustworthy witness.  In Revelation chapter 3 verse 14 we read that Jesus is a faithful and true witness. We know when we come to the word of God that we have truth. God will never lie. He cannot lie. In contrast to that is Satan. In John chapter 8 verse 44 Jesus tells the Pharisees that they are of their father the devil, who is a liar and a murderer from the beginning. Satan lied in the garden of Eden to Eve who then  lied to Adam. Adam then lied to God. At the heart of every sin we do against God there is a lie. Sin is a lie told to us or a lie told by us.  When we lie, or stretch the truth, we aid Satan and his deception in the world. We're on the side of truth when we mirror God and we are in the image of Christ. Truth or lie that is our question.
