Proverbs 8:8
All the words of my mouth are righteous;
there is nothing twisted or crooked in them.
Imagine talking to someone and being able to trust that every word they say is always right, correct, pure, honest, carrying, loving and never, never swerves from the course of truth. There are few people within our lives we would could say would never swerve from the course of truth. But, in Proverbs chapter eight Wisdom is personified as women sitting on the corner calling to all who pass by. As she calls she assures them that her words are just and never crooked or perverse. Wisdom is Christ personified here. Whereas Folly (chapter 7) is never to be trusted, Wisdom (Christ) can always be. As we read God’s Word and see it point to Christ we can rest assured that the words are pure, right, correct, just, etc. It is so trustworthy that it can convert even the simple and the foolish (Proverbs 8:5). We tend to put a lot of weight on the words of the people who speak to us. It is hard not to. When they say things about us, we can so “worth-ship” their words that we suffer internal harm. But when we listen to God’s Word and give it the supreme worth in our lives, we will find out that God knows us better and says the things we need to hear. God is always honest with His Words. Others are not.
