The book of Proverbs gives us a lot of instruction on a lot of different subjects. One subject that can keep us in God’s wisdom is Godly Follower-ship. Who we follow; where we follow; how we follow are all spoken about in Proverbs. Here is one of them about leadership:
Proverbs 29:14 (ESV)
If a king faithfully judges the poor,
his throne will be established forever.
The responsibility of the government is toward those who have no one to care for them. They are for the punishment of evil and to reward those who do good (Romans 13). In the above proverb we see the charge to the king. The king (or any person in authority over others) is to make decisions (Judge) that are done "fairly" (in truth) for those who can't care for themselves (the poor). True Godly leadership is put in place by God to make decisions for those less fortunate. Making decisions for the poor guided by truth (God is truth so the decisions are based upon God's Word and Character) is the sole responsibility of great leaders. When they fail to make Godly, truthful, decisions to protect the poor they do harm to the society they lead. If they will so lead they can be assured that their leadership will not be short lived. If they want stability, safety and security they simply need to do what God ordained them to do. Trying to have stability and longevity as a leader by cutting corners and subverting the truth will bring a short-lived reign. Truth not only sets you free, but it makes your leadership last.
