Proverbs 17:11

The book of Proverbs gives us a lot of instruction on a lot of different subjects. One subject that can keep us in God’s wisdom is Godly Follower-ship. Who we follow; where we follow; how we follow are all spoken about in Proverbs. Here is one of them about rebellious people:

Proverbs 17:11

A rebellious man seeks only evil,

So a cruel messenger will be sent against him.

Those who rebel against God and His laws need to understand the truth of this proverb.   When a man rebels against The Lord it changes how he approaches his life.   According to this proverb, a rebellious attitude will affect a person’s heart and desire.  It produces more evil.   Rebellion produces more sin.   The rebellious spirit simply produces more rebellion.   The only resolution for rebellion is the intervention of God.   The Prophet Ballam was told three times by God not to prophecy against the Israelites when the King of Moab wanted to hire him for that evil deed.  When Ballam rebelled and wanted to prophecy against Israel, God sent a messenger to warn him ... through the verbal speaking of his own donkey.   God is the only one who can stop rebellion.   He will go to unusual ways to do so.  Even allowing a donkey to speak. God simply doesn't allow us to rebel without intervention.  God will intervene to stop rebellion ... only He can stop it.  In Romans 1 we see that God gives truth to mankind.   When man rejects that truth, God “gave them up” to their reprobate minds:

Romans 1:24-28 (ESV)

24 Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves,

26 For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature;

28 And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done.

They reject truth and God allows them to pursue what is in their hearts ... more evil.  When man rebels against God he has nothing left but to be in the line for more evil.  That rebellion against God’s authority in a man’s life makes it hard for him to follow the leadership of others, as well.  Rebellion against an Omnipotent fosters rebellion agains the mortal.
