Proverbs 14:2
He who walks in his uprightness fears the Lord,
But he who is devious in his ways despises Him.
Our walk is in direct correlation to our beliefs. It is not hard to know how a person will behave in a certain situation if you know his genuine belief structure. According to this proverb, the way someone believes determines their behavior. If we fear the Lord we will have a walk permeated with uprightness. If we have no regard for God and have no respect for Him ("despise" Him) we will find deviant ways to walk. Belief in God should change our behavior. God expects that our belief will affect our behavior. Psychologist would call that "cognitive bahavioral" theory. They believe that if you want to change a person's behavior you have to change they way they believe. When people behave poorly it is, according, to the theory, something wrong with their belief. This Proverbs seems to give them support. Of course, it depends on what you believe. That is what makes the theory so questionable. If, however, you truly "fear the Lord" you will adjust your walk. If you have a problem with the walk, start questioning the belief.
