Proverbs 10:7

 The book of Proverbs gives us a lot of instruction on a lot of different subjects. One subject that can keep us in God’s wisdom is Godly Follower-ship. Who we follow; where we follow; how we follow are all spoken about in Proverbs. Here is one of them about the memory of the righteous:

Proverbs 10:7 (NASV)

The memory of the righteous is blessed,

But the name of the wicked will rot.

When you get older and up in years a proverb like this one from Solomon's pen, means more.   It is God who enables man to be remembered and how he will be remembered.   When we read the scriptures we read of Moses, Abraham, Jacob, Ruth, Paul, Timothy and countless others.  The entire chapter of Hebrews 11 is made up of names of great men and women God wants us to remember.   God continues the name of the righteous.   He allows them to leave this earth and others to remember them.   However, the wicked do not fare as well.  Their memories are blotted out.  Even though we have the names of wicked men and women in Scripture the majority of God's Word is filled with the stories of righteous people.   It is God who establishes our name and our memory.   We don't have to worry about "if" we will be remembered.  This is a promise of God that He will make our name and our reputation for Him live on.   Friends and even family may forget you but God will allow your name to live longer than you do if we are righteous in Christ.   If we are wicked we will soon be forgotten.  Note what John said in his Book of the Revelation:

Revelation 14:13 (ESV)

And I heard a voice from heaven saying, “Write this: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.” “Blessed indeed,” says the Spirit, “that they may rest from their labors, for their deeds follow them!”

Or, this Psalm:

Psalms 112:6 (ESV)

For the righteous will never be moved;

he will be remembered forever.
