Proverbs 15:3

 Proverbs 15:3 (NASBStr)

The eyes of the Lord are in every place,

Watching the evil and the good.

Is the above proverb good news or bad news?  Is it refreshing or chilling?   To those who don't know God and who do things offensive to God, this proverb might be a little cold and frightening.  They might even deny the truth of it, to keep their conscious clear and conduct unhindered.   Later in this same chapter we will read that the barren grave is open to the eyes of The Lord:

Proverbs 15:11 (ESV)

11 Sheol and Abaddon lie open before the LORD;

how much more the hearts of the children of man!

In a previous chapter, five, Solomon has already warned us that those who are tempted into adultery should be aware that God is watching:

Proverbs 5:21 (NASBStr) - For the ways of a man are before the eyes of the Lord, And He watches all his paths.

God is the beholder of all the evil of men and men ought to know it and believe it.    However, for the believer, the one who pursues wisdom, God sees the good, as well.   Note:

Hebrews 6:10 (ESV)

10 For God is not unjust so as to overlook your work and the love that you have shown for his name in serving the saints, as you still do.

That is refreshing.  When we do something good for God we can rest assured that God notices.   God rewards those who do good things.  He can do that because He sees them.  Others may not see our good works.   But, God does.    That is exciting and restful.  We might not get the recognition at work, church, community or home.   But, in the Kingdom of God, we can be at peace that He will see what happens when His grace, through faith, does good in this life.
