Proverbs 7:25 (ESV)
Let not your heart turn aside to her ways;
do not stray into her paths.
Solomon has warned us in this chapter about the woman folly who seduces the naive man. He has told us that many will go her way and many will fall into her trap. He has warned the naive one and the whole chapter is dedicated to teach him. So, one last time the teacher tells the student (you and me) to avoid her. He tells the naive one to not let his heart turn aside or to go into her paths. Avoidance is a primary teaching in Scripture. Jesus told us to cut off our finger or pluck out an eye if they are being used by Satan or the flesh to commit sin.
Matthew 18:8 (ESV)
And if your hand or your foot causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life crippled or lame than with two hands or two feet to be thrown into the eternal fire.
Job stated he would not even look on a maid.
Job 31:1 (ESV)
Job’s Final Appeal
“I have made a covenant with my eyes;
how then could I gaze at a virgin?
Paul told us not to avoid all appearance of evil.
1 Thessalonians 5:22 (ESV)
Abstain from every form of evil.
Here, Solomon tells us to avoid the path that might lead us to the adulterous women. Scripture is consistent in telling us to avoid the avenues that lead us to sin. Once we start down the avenue to sin, the act of sin is secured. Don't head down the path. Our hearts are bent on sin. That is the natural process of our heart. If we listen to God's Word, however, we can strengthen our heart ... the seat of all our decisions.
