Proverbs 6:24

The book of Proverbs gives us insights into so many different areas of life. The book gives us instruction on how to live our lives for God. Here is a proverb that gives us insight about Lady Folly:

Proverbs 6:24 (NASBStr)

To keep you from the evil woman,

From the smooth tongue of the adulteress.

Proverbs 6:24 (ESV)

to preserve you from the evil woman,

from the smooth tongue of the adulteress.

Depending on when you are reading this proverb, you may be new to the theme of Proverbs.   Solomon has stated the theme of the above proverb many times so far (chapters 1-5) and will say it many more times in the subsequent chapters.   The theme of Proverbs is Wisdom (Christ incarnate) vs. Folly (Sin personified as an adulterous women).   Wisdom, Christ indwelling us via the ministry of the Holy Spirit, is provided by faith in the Fear of The Lord to keep us from Lady Folly.   She is "evil" as stated above, but as we can see in the second line of the proverb, she is a smooth talker.   The smooth and inviting tongue of Folly is often lost on the naive.   Naivety and the strength of the flesh will not keep us from her smooth talk of an adulterous women.  But, God did not leave us abandoned.   God gives us the indwelling of the Spirit when we Fear The Lord via Faith. When Satan tempted Eve in the garden he used smooth talking persuasion.   When David was tempted to commit adultery with Bathsheba, Satan used smooth talking persuasion.   That is what the proverbs teach us.  We are to follow God’s Wisdom and avoid the smooth talk of Lady Folly.
