Proverbs 8:19 (ESV)
My fruit is better than gold, even fine gold,
and my yield than choice silver.
In chapter 8 of Proverbs we have Wisdom speaking, almost in response to what has happened in chapter 7, Folly's story. Wisdom, unlike Folly, wants us to know that when we embrace Her we will not be lead to the stocks like a fool, or to the trap like a dumb bird:
Proverbs 7:22-23 (ESV)
All at once he follows her,
as an ox goes to the slaughter,
or as a stag is caught fast
till an arrow pierces its liver;
as a bird rushes into a snare;
he does not know that it will cost him his life.
(Wisdom doesn't take life away from us, like Folly. She gives it vs taking it:
Proverbs 7:27 (ESV)
Her house is the way to Sheol,
going down to the chambers of death.
Proverbs 8:35 (ESV)
For whoever finds me finds life
and obtains favor from the LORD,
As Proverbs 8:19 states, we can be assured that Wisdom not only gives us life, it produces "fruit" in our lives. Not just ordinary fruit, however. The fruit that wisdom yields forth is fruit that has some sustaining qualities. Fruit better than anything we can imagine. In 8:10 we are told:
Proverbs 8:10 (ESV)
Take my instruction instead of silver,
and knowledge rather than choice gold,
We are to search for her. However, in this proverb, we are told that the yield we get from this searching for wisdom is better than gold and silver. We can be assured that the fruit we get from pursuing Wisdom is worth it. Wisdom, of course, is Christ. In 1 Corinthians 1 and 2 Christ is described as wisdom. So when Christ says that through Him the Spirit will produce the Fruits of the Spirit, we can rejoice and realize that, "Love, Joy, Peace, Long-suffering, etc. are more valuable than silver and gold. When we allow Christ (Wisdom) to dwell in us and control us we can see the truth of this proverb.
