Proverbs 3:18

The book of Proverbs gives us insights into so many different areas of life. The book gives us instruction on how to live our lives for God. Here is a proverb that gives us insight about the blessing of version: 

Proverbs 3:18 (NASB)

She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her,

And happy are all who hold her fast.

Proverbs 3:18 (ESV)

18 She is a tree of life to those who lay hold of her;

those who hold her fast are called blessed.

The Bible has much to say about believers and the "tree of life."   Not only here, in 3:18, but also in three other places in Proverbs we see that faith in God is described as producing something with a tree of life.  In Psalm 1 we see that the believer is like a tree planted by the rivers of waters bearing fruit in season.  In Revelation we see that the tree of life referred to five times in relationship to the believer.   But, the most important place the tree of life is referred to is found in Genesis 3 where Adam and Eve are driven out of the Garden of Eden to assure they don't eat from the Tree of Life, having already eaten from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil.   In Proverbs 3:18 we see that Wisdom is personified as a women and is said to be a Tree of Life to believers.   If we take hold of Lady Wisdom we will have Her (Christ) as a Tree of Life and we will have Happiness (Blessed) as a by-product.  Wisdom has benefits.   Christ is Wisdom.  Belief in Christ has benefits.   In the end of chapter three we see those benefits listed out.   In 3:18 we have a couple of those benefits.   We can have a tree that produces life for us.   We can have happiness.   Life in Christ is a meaningful life.  It is a life filled with truth and justice and peace and happiness.   Hold onto  Wisdom through faith in Christ.
