Proverbs 14:6 (ESV)
A scoffer seeks wisdom in vain,
but knowledge is easy for a man of understanding.
The contrast in Proverbs between the "scoffer" and the "wise" man is always quite striking. The scoffer makes fun of wisdom. The scoffer does not fear The Lord. The scoffer cannot be corrected. And, in the first line of this proverb we read that a scoffer does not find wisdom, even if he is looking for it. The reason he can't find it is that he must pursue it in faith and in belief of God's Word (Romans 10:10 and Ephesians 2:8,10). Wisdom comes from the fear of The Lord and the scoffer, a deeper version of the fool, does not believe in God. So, no matter how hard he looks, he will never find wisdom. But, the person who "has understanding" is a believer in God and has faith in God's Word. That means the "knowledge of wisdom" is easy to find because God provides it. God gives us wisdom. It is a gift to us, but we must come in full faith and never wavier (James 1). If you want God's wisdom and knowledge then we must live a life of faith in God's Word. The ultimate way to get wisdom is to ask in faith and read His Word. Something the scoffer can't do because ... well, because he scoffs at God's Word.
