Proverbs 8:28

The book of Proverbs gives us insights into so many different areas of life. The book gives us instruction on how to live our lives for God. Here is a proverb that gives us insight about the stability in God’s wisdom:

Proverbs 8:28 (NASBStr)

When He made firm the skies above,

When the springs of the deep became fixed,

Proverbs 8:28 (ESV)

when he made firm the skies above,

when he established the fountains of the deep,

God made creation via the Wisdom of Christ, His Son.   In this section of Proverbs eight we are reading about God's creation.  The point Solomon is making is to let us know that when we have wisdom we can be assured our production in life will be firm and secure.  As an example, God places the skies "firm" above.   He made the springs of the deep, "fixed."   The sky doesn't fall.  The springs in the deep don't just burst forth.   God provides wisdom so that the works of our hands can be assured.  When we are counseling others we can be assured, with God's wisdom, we can give sound judgment to them.  When we are trying to serve Christ, with wisdom, we can be assured that service can be true.   God made the skies with wisdom.   When we think we can do our work without Godly wisdom we don't create "firm" and "fixed" products, service or good works.   God has called us to create good things in this world.  We can't be assured that will happen in the right way if we are not doing so with the Wisdom God provides in Christ.

The entire chapter is all about how God used wisdom to create the world.   Wisdom, it reads, was there at the very beginning. Of course, we know in 1 Corinthians 1 and 2 that Christ is referred to as “wisdom.”  We know from Hebrews 1:2-3 that it was through Christ that God made the world.  So, the point in the above proverb is that Christ made the skies and established the foundations of the deep, therefore we can be assured that wisdom is also secure.   When we present Christ to others we provide them a sure and steadfast anchor for their soul (Hebrews 6:19).   God’s wisdom is sure and secure.   We can use it, teach it and provide it with great hope and expectation.
