Proverbs 1:30

The book of Proverbs gives us insights into so many different areas of life. The book gives us instruction on how to live our lives for God. Here is a proverb that gives us insight about what happens when men reject God:

Proverbs 1:30 (ESV)

would have none of my counsel

and despised all my reproof.

God is talking in the above proverb.   In the later portion of chapter one Solomon is telling us about God's response to the non-believer's rejection of God and His Holy Wisdom.   God has told us that those who reject God not only do so but also attempt to bring others with them.   God's response: Laughter:

Proverbs 1:26 (ESV)

I also will laugh at your calamity;

I will mock when terror strikes you,

Why?   Solomon is listing why and the above proverb is one reason why:  They not only wouldn't listen to God's Word, they would have none of God's Word and correction.   Men do not want to hear God's Word.   Because they didn't, God will reject them and laugh when they cry out for mercy.  God offers mercy.   When man rejects mercy they no longer have an option.   The reality of mankind's walk away from God is that he rejected God's Word.   He spurned God.   Man laughs at God now and rejects His Word.   That is just another piece of evidence of why God won't respond when man cries out for mercy.  They laughed at God and God returns the response and laughs at them.  We might think that is unkind, or unloving of God.  But, God is not willing that any should perish.  He offers and offers His mercy and grace.  When they continue to laugh at God, God will get the final laugh.
