Proverbs 1:25

The book of Proverbs gives us insights into so many different areas of life. The book gives us instruction on how to live our lives for God. Here is a proverb that gives us insight about being corrected:

Proverbs 1:25 (ESV)

because you have ignored all my counsel

and would have none of my reproof,

Solomon is in the beginning of his treatise on wisdom and folly.   God, through Solomon's pen, is telling us that when we are given truth (Godly wisdom) and reject that truth we find ourselves on the outside of God's grace.   Even though God gives us his "counsel" we "neglect" it.   Even though God gives us "reproof " we do not want it.  Our nature is bent on rebellion (see Romans 8).   God offers us wise words and even correction when we don't hear the words.  Yet, we still end up rebellious.  Without God's grace we will only have God's wrath.  God must intervene for us.  He does that via counsel and reproof.  If we reject it and don't accept it by faith, we are lost and wander into worse behavior.   God uses both the positive approach of wise counsel and the negative rod of reproof.  We shouldn't reject either one.  Both are profitable.   God is gentle to us.  He uses the sweetness of His Word to reprove us.  He uses the rod and the staff to comfort us.  Don't neglect His counsel or do not fail to desire His reproof.  What does God do if we continue to reject His reproof?

Romans 1:24-28 (ESV)

Therefore God GAVE THEM UP in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen.

For this reason God GAVE THEM UP to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error.

And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God GAVE THEM UP to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done.

If we continue to reject God’s wisdom, God eventually GIVE US UP to our own earthly and sensual desires.
