Proverbs 24:30

The book of Proverbs gives us a lot of instruction on a lot of different subjects. One subject that can keep us in God’s wisdom is Godly Follower-ship. Who we follow; where we follow; how we follow are all spoken about in Proverbs. Here is one of them about the lazy person:

Proverbs 24:30 (NASBStr)
I passed by the field of the sluggard
And by the vineyard of the man lacking sense,

This proverb and the next four proverbs all talk about the sluggard; the lazy fellow who won't work and therefore won't have food to eat.   Looking at the first of the five verses we see that someone, Solomon, is walking along and observes the sluggard's field.   He (Solomon) doesn't actually see the sluggard but rather the sluggards fruit ... or NO fruit. He probably would not even see the sluggard in his field.  Why?   Because Solomon sees that the sluggard has neglected their field and the vine in the field.   He notices that the vineyard is not empty but full of thorns and thistles (something we will cover in the following proverb).   What we need to see here is that the sluggard doesn't go unnoticed.  The lazy person is easy to spot as they seldom do anything of profit.   If you keep your eyes open  you will notice the sluggard.   They want everything and do nothing.   They talk much and do little.    If they own fields they do no planting or cultivating of the field.   We are not told how the sluggard gets his field. We are only told that the field is obviously from an owner who "lacks sense.”  But, in the Hebrew, it means more the "head" but also part of his “heart.”  You have in this proverb the picture of a sage who sees the sluggard and knows he is a sluggard and lacks heart because the field is neglected.   Sluggards are obvious.   They don't take care of what they own.
