Proverbs 14:33

The book of Proverbs gives us a lot of instruction on a lot of different subjects. One subject that can keep us in God’s wisdom is Godly Follower-ship. Who we follow; where we follow; how we follow are all spoken about in Proverbs. Here is one of them about controlling wisdom:

Proverbs 14:33 (ESV)

Wisdom rests in the heart of a man of understanding,

but it makes itself known even in the midst of fools.

When wisdom is in the heart of the person it will rest quietly and know when and where to release its knowledge and understanding.  Wisdom (the Person and Character of Christ) will control the heart of him who has it.   When we are possessed by Christ we are given strength to know when and where to extend its benefits.   In the second line of this proverb we read that the heart of the fool is not like the heart of the one with Wisdom.  The fool can't control the folly that is within.   The fool makes his foolishness known.   There are some who believe that the second line is saying that the fool, too, has wisdom.   But, rather than knowing its value, he just proclaims it, like his folly.   That may be an acceptable understanding of "But in the hearts ... it is made known."  The point of the second line is that the fool has no control about what comes out of his mouth.  The inward parts of the fool are known at once.   The contrast here is what is important.   Those who have wisdom are given control to use it.  Those who are fools, have no controls.   When we are given knowledge and understanding and wisdom we are also given the power to know how to use it and how to distribute that fruit.   With blessings is given supernatural control.   Wisdom is available through Godly believers.   Wisdom flows from those who have understanding.    God gives us that understanding as we seek His will.  Note the following:

Colossians 1:9

For this reason also, since the day we heard of it, we have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding,

Understanding is a gift from God as result of His grace in our lives.   It will "rest" in our hearts.   It flows out and makes wisdom available through that same grace.  But it also provides the control to use it.
